Joinery Structures designed and produced all of the wood joinery for this Napa house.  We did the concrete, framing, siding, roofing, plastering and built some of the doors and windows.  The wood joinery, mostly of Port Orford cedar, is of an exceptional level of craftsmanship—the result of Paul Discoe’s years of studying joinery in Japan.  The roof is corrugated metal, painted with asphalt emulsion.  We framed a 2x4 roof on top of the exposed ceilings, insulated with rigid insulation, and wrapped with sheet metal flashings that returned to the soffits.  2x3 infill framing between the posts and beams allowed for enough room for exterior siding, interior plaster and some reveal at the wood members.  The second floor clerestory really highlights the woodwork.
